Job summary

The postholder will provide professional clinical leadership for nurses and APs relating to professional standards, patient safety, patient experience, effectiveness and clinical pathway excellence.

This post will focus on key trust-wide clinical areas such as, safeguarding, mental health advice and liaison and the development of safe staffing methodology.

This post will work closely with the Deputy Chief nurse in supporting the nursing/AP workforce to align and embed the aims of the workforce transformation agenda and assist the heads of nursing and professional service to deliver a workforce that is aligned to the Trust's strategy.

The post will provide senior clinical leadership to the Trust's Advanced and Enhanced Practice programme.

The postholder will provide nursing/allied professional leadership in the transition to Oriel.

The postholder must form highly effective working relationships with clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

The postholder will update board sub committees on progress and present to the senior leadership team. They will be required to represent the Trust at system and sector meetings.

They will form strong links with the Directors of Quality, Clinical support services, and with the Deputy Medical Directors, lead(s) for Allied Professionals/ Nursing and Chief People Officer to align improvement, quality and transformation agendas.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Nursing and AP leadership team, the post holder will drive change pertaining to the clinical workforce, focussing on developing and supporting delivery of the safer staffing agenda and to align with the Trust-wide strategy.

The post holder will implement change towards enhanced and advanced practice as per the NHS workforce plan, and lead on nursing and AP elements of the Trust's recruitment and retention plan, including International Recruitment, professional nurse advocacy and the equivalent for Allied Professionals

With the Associate Director of Organisational Development and Culture, the postholder will lead the anti-racism agenda for nurses and allied professionals.

They will take responsibility for the corporate nursing risk register andwill manage mental health and interpreting service contracts for the Trust, and will manage the safeguarding and integrated support service counselling teams.

The work will be aligned to the Trust's strategic objectives and will support the longer- term goal with the move to project Oriel.

The postholder will support the chief nurse and executive director of APs to provide professional visible leadership across the organisation to ensure that senior staff understand the contribution required of them to meet professional standards and Trust objectives.

The postholder will promote professional leadership and foster a culture of professionalism, compassion, and excellence in all aspects of delivery of patient care.

Safe staffing and Workforce

  • Working with the Executive Leads, support the trust to develop a strategic workforce plan, leading on the nursing and AP components, that deliver the new clinical pathways and models of care, this will include clinically benchmarking services against peers and best in class models, such as the ophthalmology GIRFT programme.
  • Lead on the clinical aspects of workforce infrastructure projects such as improving our use of and consistency of approach to ESR, Bank, appraisal systems etc
  • Work, where required, with non-clinical teams to drive the safety and safe staffing agenda as part of business planning process.
  • Lead on producing a Safer Staffing model for the Trust, ensuring that the unique position of a specialist Ophthalmic Trust is recognised, leading the way in recommending a staffing model that works in this arena.
  • As required, advise the CN on staffing requirements for safety associated with new Oriel building or other new sites developed at Moorfields.
  • Contribute towards the planning, design, and delivery of a range of training and development interventions that support recruitment and retention and improved culture for nurses and APs.

Clinical Innovation and leadership for patient experience and engagement

  • Seek out innovation from external organisations and independent sector services and develop a best in practice repository to support clinicians and specialties to become cutting edge in their delivery of services. Support evidence gathering, publication and knowledge sharing from the initiatives taken within our trust.
  • Work closely with corporate executive directors, divisional general managers, clinical directors, and heads of professional groups to establish priorities for service delivery.
  • Agree ways of working that ensure that resource is aligned to strategic objectives and supports the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Lead the clinical elements of change required to improve patient experience, engagement and education with a particular focus on delivering the AIS requirements.
  • Provide non-medical clinical leadership for delivery of an effective system for issuing Certificates of visual impairment.
  • Provide clinical leadership working with the Oriel development team for
