We are looking for a full-time Band 3 Ophthalmic Technician to join our new exciting hub of Moorfields at Stratford
The role of an Ophthalmic Technician in this service is varied and you will be working in both nurse-led and technician-led clinics, working as part of a team to ensure patients undergo the appropriate tests for their eye condition.
You will be required to carry out investigatory procedures for patients attending Glaucoma, Cataract, Medical Retina (Intra-vitreal injection & Retinal laser), and General Ophthalmology clinics. You will be trained and achieve competency in Optical CoherenceTomography, Visual Fields Analyser, Auto refraction, Biometry, Pentacam, Logmar and Snellen visual assessments, non-contact tonometry, and Goldman tonometry. You will also be required to assist with intra-vitreal injections. Training will be provided and you will be required to complete a competency assessment.
Main duties of the job
Clinical and Patient Care1. To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients.
2. To exercise a reasonable and agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job after a period of training and completion of appropriate competencies.3. To work alongside all staff in all areas of the patient pathway - ophthalmic outpatient clinics and nurse-led pre-assessment clinics, theatre, daycare including admissions and discharge areas.4. To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff, following appropriate training and assessment of competency. 5. To attain the competencies such as set out in Appendix 1 of the job description.6. Be a 'competent user' of a variety of technical equipment.7. Determine optical prescriptions in spectacles using manual and automated focimetry.8. Visual field tests - Perform the relevant visual field test for the patient within the eye department protocols on the Humphrey Field Analyser to identify where visual fields have changed significantly, understanding unexpected variations, which may indicate deterioration, required to give a detailed explanation of tests.

Moorfields Eye Hospital has recently been successful in securing additional funding from NHS England to provide additional eye care at a new site in Stratford. This new hub is on Stratford High Street (Granta House, 15-19 Broadway, Stratford, London, E15 4BQ), close to Stratford's shops and services and the Westfield shopping center. This new site has created lots of new opportunities and the amalgamation of Moorfields Mile End Hospital and Sir Ludwig Guttmann into this new site .

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

- Support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs and the delivery of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment.
- Work collaboratively with others as part of the multi-disciplinary team, assisting nursing and other clinical staff in duties associated with patient care.
- Support colleagues in ensuring that patients receive care in a timely manner during their visit to Moorfields. Ensuring that patients are fully informed of any delays and what is being done to address or rectify delays in treatments or clinical tests.
- Treat patients with dignity and respect and maintaining their confidentiality both inside and outside the hospital environment.
- Provide support to the clinical team in the delivery of care ensuring that these are within your personal scope of knowledge and competency.
- Ensure that the clinical areas are prepared for use at the start of each shift and reviewed at regular intervals throughout the day e.g. ensuring that clinical areas are clean and tidy, all the necessary equipment such as clinical documents and consumables are stocked up adhering to all health and safety and infection control policies.
- Be responsible for the initial reporting of faulty equipment and follow-up repairs, keeping the supervisor or nurse in charge informed.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Act as a chaperone when required.
Presently you are required to work across Stratford , Barking and Sir Ludwig Guttmann health cente. .
