Job summary
The post holder will commence employment as a Trainee Pharmacy Technician (student / apprentice). They will be required to successfully meet set competencies designed to develop the qualities, skills and knowledge expected to move to a Band 5 level once qualified.
The post holder will gain experience in various rotations such as clinical Pharmacy services including outpatient, daycare , and paediatric patients at the Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre (RDCEC).
Participation will also be required in late duties and Saturdays on a rotational basis depending on service requirements.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed. The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.
Main duties of the job
Length of competency training will be dependent on what qualification / experience the staff member has achieved already but the following would be expected to be met within 24 months at the latest:1. Successful completion of the Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) course.
2. Accreditation as a Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) and Medicines Management (AIMM) qualification / Medicines Optimisation Program (MOP).
3. Contribution to service development i.e. completion of either an audit, service evaluation, quality improvement project or development of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
4. Accreditation in Training Skills (ATS) qualification / Educational Supervisor / Practice Supervisor (completed or currently enrolled)
5. Leading With Compassion (LWC) Programme for New Managers

The post holder will assist in the provision of a safe and efficient patient focused Pharmacy Service. The post holder will be working in patient facing areas as part of the Pharmacy dispensary and clinical teams including the pharmacy stores and distribution sections of the Pharmacy on a rotational basis.The post holder will commence employment as a Trainee Pharmacy Technician (student /apprentice). To give out dispensed and checked medications with appropriate instructions to patients.3. To ensure medication safety at all times and that all patients and/or their carers arecounselled by appropriately trained members of staff on the safe and effective use of theirmedicines.4. To ensure ordering, supply and accurate prescription filing of to-follow medications.5. Pharmacy procurement and distribution:1. To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician for procurement and distribution to implement andmaintain various systems to meet procurement and CMU Quality Assurance (QA) standards.2. To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician for procurement and distribution to ensure thatall Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being adhered to.3.
