Job summary
An exciting new opportunity has arisen for the Clinical Lead for Theatres at Moorfields Eye Hospital City Road. The theatre department comprises of ten operating theatres providing elective and emergency NHS and private ophthalmic surgery. It is an exciting time for the Theatre department, developing new working strategies and pathways.
The post holder will be a member of the expert clinical leadership team in the Theatre Department at City Road, providing skilled clinical and technical guidance. You will be a visible, approachable and authoritative figure offering support and leadership to the Designated Nurse In Charge, supporting them in the daily operational management of the department. You will be expected to act with delegated authority in the absence of the Theatre Manager to make leadership decisions in their absence
Main duties of the job
Main duties include:
- Professionally accountable and responsible for the development and provision of high quality care and a safe environment for patient within theatre services.
- In collaboration with the Theatre Manager manage all human, financial and physical resources.
- To lead the departmental team, taking responsibility for the management and organisation of the clinical area, in a courteous and patient focused manner.
- Work with clinicians as part of the management team, to provide expert knowledge on all areas of theatres and to be a role model, providing sound leadership and motivation for all members of staff.
- To be responsible for direct management of delegated staff, ensuring robust management of performance and absence.
- Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC and HCPC Codes of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.
- Act as an agent of change in achieving a culture that is flexible and responds positively to the needs of the service and our patients.
- Actively develop positive team working between theatres and the surgical wards.
- Support the Division in all activities related to the improvement of theatre utilisation.

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
