Job summary

We are recruiting for a Band 3 Apprenticeship - OVS/Ophthalmic Technician

We are seeking exceptional candidates that share our vision for excellence to work with us here at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As we build on exciting new models of care we are seeking applications to Ophthalmic Technician roles supporting our expanding diagnostic hubs and pathways across the whole trust.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

This post will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

During the probationary period, your suitability for continued employment will be assessed and provided a satisfactory standard is achieved and maintained, your employment will be confirmed.The probationary period may be extended or your employment terminated either during or at the end of probation, in line with the trust Probationary Policy. For the duration of the probation period, the notice period will be in line with contractual obligations on either side.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to use their initiative and excellent interpersonal skills as well as a range of technical skills.

The post holder will be required to carry out a range of investigatory procedures such as visual fields and ophthalmic imaging for patients with many different eye conditions. You will also be expected to support patients and their relatives as required, as well as assisting in clinics and undertaking other clinical activities as needed. You will need to have a caring and compassionate nature, display excellent customer service skills, as well as be able to work independently and safely, following all standard operating procedures.

You will receive a full induction, training and competency package on commencement and you will receive supervision from an experienced senior technician.

The roles is based in our diagnostic unit at Hoxton and you will have opportunity to work in clinics across Moorfields Eye Hospital .

The successful candidate will be required to be flexible, enthusiastic and committed to bringing the highest level of ophthalmic care to people, reflected in our Trust's core belief that "People's sight matters".

Previous experience of working with people, in the care setting, service industry or retail would be valuable to this role as well as a good standard of education including numeracy and literacy, NVQ Level 3 or relevant experience.
