Job summary
To support the provision and management of waiting lists at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals by calling patients prior to surgery and assisting the replacement where possible of any patients who have been cancelled.
The objective of this post is to minimize on the day cancellations due to patients not attending on the day (DNA) or cancelling on the day (CNA).
Main duties of the job
Ensure all patients on a theatre list are called between 3 and 5 working days prior to their admission to remind/confirm they are still attending their appointment and to determine if there are any health changes that may affect surgery on the day. During the phone call, a standard questionnaire will be asked to the patient.
Inform specialities of any patients who are identified during the pre-call that they can no longer come in order that a replacement can be found.
The post holder will have patient contact experience, a knowledge of Waiting Lists, Camis, Bluespier and PTL.
Liaise with the Pre Assessment Nursing team regarding any health concerns raised by the patient to determine the potential impact to surgery on the day of admission.
Keep records of calls and actions undertaken in order to ascertain levels of success in reducing cancellations/DNAs and backfilling cases on a theatre admission list.
Ensure that all patients have the correct contact details should anything change in the time between TCI and the precall prior to surgery.
Work in conjunction with all waiting list teams within the Trust on a daily basis.
Use CAMIS and other clinical systems to record and examine information about patients in order to maintain data quality on the system.
Liaise with relevant staff and departments including waiting list team, pre-assessment nurses, secretaries, surgeons, theatre staff and any other staff.
