Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity for somebody with experience in building services engineering who is looking for a career within NHS estates management. Reporting to the Head of Estates you will work as part of the team responsible for the management of the Hospital's estate. Managing directly employed labour and contracted services working on a wide range of engineering systems, you will be responsible for maintaining effective and efficient service delivery in line with statutory legislation, guidance and healthcare technical standards.
We are particularly looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with relevant technical qualifications and experience in NHS estates management, or a related building services engineering environment. You must have the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of clinical, technical and managerial staff members, demonstrating a high level of interpersonal and team working skills. A degree in an engineering discipline is desirable, but applicants must hold a minimum HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanical, electrical or building services engineering discipline.
Main duties of the job
Contribute as part of the team responsible for the management of the engineering maintenance section for the Trust, including management of staff resource. Manage the response and effective/efficient development of the department's resources to ensure that all the Trust's properties and their associated building and engineering services are maintained in a good state of repair and meet mandatory, statutory DOH guidelines and other relevant technical standards and guidance.
To fulfil the role of "Action Officer" undertaking reviews of NHS Estates Facilities Alerts, Hazard Notices, and other DOH notices issued, providing guidance, and developing action plans to meet the recommendations of the relevant issuing body.
Procure services and goods ensuring best value in line with the Trust's Standing Financial Orders and Instructions. Check and reconcile invoices against orders and authorising payment of goods/services received. Monitor and control budgetary trends on behalf of the budget holder, and compile records for audit purposes.
Participate in the department's on-call service, ensuring professional and technical support is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, managing and co-ordinating an emergency response, providing technical advice, support, instruction and guidance and liaising with clinical/management colleagues to resolve the adverse situation with a view to returning to normal service standards.
