Job summary

This post forms part of a large team of 12 Medical Gastroenterology Physicians across two main hospital inpatient sites plus outpatient services at Montagu Hospital.

The post holder will be supported by ward-based postgraduatemedical staff and will share the work with several consultant colleagues.

The post will be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and or Bassetlaw District General Hospital where you will participate in a 1 in 8 general medical. There is an option to take part in a 1 in 8 GI bleed on-call rota. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the delivery and development of Gastroenterology services across the trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Strengthening the delivery of a high quality Gastroenterology Service across the hospital and community
  • Forging links between Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine for Acute Patients
  • Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedical Staff
  • Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management focusing on high quality care and emphasis on community management where appropriate
  • Developing the use of nurse practitioners and paramedical staff in the hospital and community
  • Developing a subspecialty interest
  • Maintain close links with Gastroenterology colleagues including at the other two sites
  • Provide a 7 day service with colleagues as resources allow
  • Teaching and Training undergraduates as well as postgraduates
  • Quality Assurance of the service and individual practice
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, residentsmedical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD)

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • You must be on the specialist register for Gastroenterology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
  • Relevant higher degree

Experience

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Gastro Intestinal and common medical conditions
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within the specialty
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions

Desirable

  • Wide based experience in Gastroenterology
  • Attendance at a recognised management course

Teaching and training

Essential

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

Desirable

  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education
