We will teach you everything you need to know and all we ask is that you are a caring and kind person with a genuine desire to help and support our patients by providing exceptional care. You'll not be doing this alone, you will join one of our dynamic and caring teams. You will work alongside many colleagues which include Healthcare Support workers & registered Nurses to name a few.

This post will be based in the Discharge Lounge at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with working hours between 8am and 8:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm on a Saturday/Sunday.

Main duties of the job

You will work alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide a positive experience to our patients and their relatives at times of need. You will support patients in various ways such as:

  • Collecting patients from various departments and taking them to the discharge lounge.
  • Supporting patients prepare for going home, including booking transport and liaising with family members / carers.
  • Assisting patient with comfort needs whilst in the discharge lounge such as toileting and personal care
  • Ensure patients are supported to eat and drink
  • Helping people to mobilise
  • Assisting with patients' overall comfort

It's really important to consider that some aspects of healthcare work can be distressing and unpleasant. You will be expected to help patients with personal care without being embarrassed or feeling awkward. You will need to be able to communicate sympathetically with patients, and distressed relatives, and care for patients who are very sick.
