Job summary
The RCOA's Medical Training Initiative (MTI) scheme is a government scheme designed to assist doctors with proven ability in anaesthesia (3 years or more) from outside the EU, to pursue further specific specialist training in the UK. Doctors can come to the UK for up to two (2) years under the UK Border Agency's Tier 5 immigration rules. The service seeks dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic colleagues, committed to the highest standards of practice, evidence based medicine and quality assurance.
Main duties of the job
The post is intended to allow the successful applicant to undertake training in the following areas within anaesthesia:
Intensive Care
Acute Pain Management
Preoperative Assessment
ENT, Urology, General Surgery, Vascular, Gynaecology
Regional and Local Blocks
Airway Management
Education in Anaesthesia
Obstetrics
Management
Audit, Quality Governance, Morbidity & Mortality
Teaching
This clinical post would include both daytime and out of hours work under supervision.

This training post will provide a real opportunity for the post holder to develop his or her curriculum vitae and clinical experience, equivalent to that received by UK trainees. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop his or her own clinical skills and be involved in service review and development. The post will allow the development and enhancement of existing clinical skills and allow the acquisition of further skills within the selected speciality area.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide general anaesthetic duties on both solo and attached Consultant supervised lists, and participate in the on-call rota at Doncaster& Bassetlaw NHS THFT. On-call duties include Obstetrics, Critical Care and General Emergencies, depending on the experience and capabilities of the applicant, and the service needs of the hospital trust. Out of hours is provided by a shift pattern and comply with European Working Time Directives in relation to hours.

- Completion of Core Training or equivalent within the specialty, 3 years' experience in the specialty
- Applicants must have full GMC registration and continue to hold a License to Practice

- Post graduate qualification must be in anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine
Experience and Achievements

- Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in Specialty expected of a doctor at ST3 and above level
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the Speciality and to support the junior medical colleagues and nursing team.
- Competence in procedural skills relevant to the level of the post
- Ability and willingness to learn from colleagues, senior and other sources.
