Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Doncaster Youth Justice and wider Children's Speech and Language Therapy team within the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The role involves working within the EPIC Learning education provision for students (11-16), many with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who have found it difficult to engage with mainstream secondary education. These young people have either been excluded from their mainstream school or are at risk of exclusion.

The team are keen to find a motivated Newly Qualified therapist or someone who has completed their newly qualified competencies and wants to take on a new challenge.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs, developing relationships with the students in the provision, and supporting them to access learning alongside a multi-disciplinary team including teacher, support workers, assistant psychologist, and health and wellbeing worker.

This is a part time (22.5 hours) and term time post. The students attend the provision Monday to Thursday. There is a morning cohort and afternoon cohort. We are happy to be flexible around how these hours are worked so please contact us to have a conversation if you are interested in the post.

Main duties of the job

To provide Speech and Language Therapy to young people open to the EPIC learning education provision, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service. The Speech and Language Therapy role at EPIC Learning is to help understand the challenges and barriers the young person was experiencing in their previous education provision, and contribute to supporting them in their future education provision.

To manage the caseload at EPIC Learning to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of young people. This means the cohort of learners changes frequently, meaning a varied caseload throughout the year.

To work collaboratively with colleagues in education, health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of young people. Colleagues at EPIC Learning include teacher, support workers, assistant psychologist, health and wellbeing worker.

To work with the Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Youth Justice Service to maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice with reference to current research and evidence based practice.

To work with other members of the team in the development of the service.

To ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
