Job summary

This is one of several posts to promote the delivery of the well-established emergency medicine service and enhance our patient outcomes. There is consultant presence in both units 7 days of the week, with 12-18 hour cover. These posts will suit enthusiastic junior doctors looking to develop and use their skills in medicine and gain expertise in a subspecialty. They will be responsible for the continued delivery and further development of an already well-established service for patients living within the catchment area of the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and surrounding areas and will be working under consultant supervision. The contract is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months after which we would envisage extension on a mutually agreed basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Managing a whole spectrum of emergency patients
  • Assistance and supervision of the F1, F2 and GPST doctors with the management of patients.
  • Strengthening the delivery of a high quality Emergency Medicine service across the hospital and community.
  • Developing further links between Emergency medicine and acute medicine
  • Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care.
  • Developing a subspecialty interest.
  • Teaching and training undergraduates as well as postgraduates

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in Emergency Medicine expected of a doctor at ST3 and above level
  • High level of clinical experience and competence in the management of all the common Emergency Medicine presentations with previous work experience in ED for 4 months or more
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the Specialty and to support the junior medical staff and nursing team.
  • Competence in procedural skills relevant to the level of the post
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need

Desirable

  • Minimum one year NHS UK working experience
  • Ability and willingness to learn from colleagues, senior and other sources.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Completion of Core Training in Emergency Medicine or equivalent within the specialty or 3 years in Emergency Medicine
  • Valid Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Applicants must have full GMC registration and continue to hold a License to Practice

Desirable

  • Emergency Paediatric Life Support (EPLS) and/or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certificates
  • Relevant Higher Degree or FRCEM or parts of
  • Ultrasound level 1
  • MRCEM Part I / MRCEM Part II

Teaching and training

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of medical students, junior colleagues and non-medical staff.

Desirable
