Job summary

We are looking for forward-thinking and dynamic consultants in Emergency Medicine, who are passionate about transforming services, to come and join us in shaping the future of Emergency Care. Our significant redesign plans include the development of an Emergency Care Centre which will incorporate our Emergency Departments with our Acute Medical Unit and Ambulatory Care Centre. In order to meet the increasing challenges within emergency medicine we are expanding our consultant base. This will allow us to provide shop floor consultant input and leadership from 8am to 11 pm every day of the week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for forward-thinking and dynamic consultants eager to explore new and innovative ways of delivering a consistently high-quality service. Successful candidates will be encouraged to develop an area of expertise or sub-specialisation within Emergency Medicine.

Our ambitious, recent restructure created the Emergency Medicine Department supporting improved interaction between the Emergency Department and Acute Medicine which ensures that we are set up to provide great care, first time, every time, for every patient. Each year our Emergency Departments at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw District General Hospital see over 172,000 people.

We have successfully introduced a front door assessment and streaming service with a pivot nurse and early senior assessment by a consultant to ensure the best patient journey. We are using I.T. in new and innovative ways to improve patient safety and maximise efficiency.

  • MRCEM or equivalent

  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
  • ALS, (or equivalent) ATLS (or equivalent), APLS (or equivalent) provider

Desirable

  • Qualification in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
  • Training in Child Protection/Safeguarding Level 3
  • Relevant higher degree

Experience and Achievements

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Emergency Medicine
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within Emergency Medicine
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions

Desirable

  • Wide based experience in Emergency Medicine
  • Attendance at a recognised management course

Teaching and training
