Job summary

We are looking for a midwifery support worker to work within the diabetes service within antenatal clinic.

To provide assistance to registered nurses/midwives by effective, prompt, and competent undertaking of delegated duties. To work as part of a team, as directed by the team leader.The Maternity support worker will work within the Diabetes Antenatal service under the supervision of the specialist Midwife for diabetes and the diabetes specialist nurse team in the provision of care to women who live with diabetes or develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

Main duties of the job

This unique opportunity is ideal for individuals who are keen to embrace a new challenge and expand their knowledge and skills in this specialist area.

The midwifery team is a fast paced busy environment to work in and you will work closely within the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of care whilst maintaining a safe, efficient environment.

Although the role can be challenging, it will provide excellent personal development opportunities and job satisfaction.

It is essential that you have the ability to work independently and under supervision. Good interpersonal and organisational skills are essential for this post.

  • NVQ Level 3/ Diploma/ QCF Intermediate apprenticeship in health & social care
  • Experience in healthcare setting for diabetes or medical or maternity.
  • Trained HCA/HCSW/MSW

Desirable

  • Experience in the healthcare setting
  • Care Certificate if employed in hospital since 2015.
  • Foundations of care course if appropriate

Qualifications / Training

Essential

  • Math and English GCSE grade C/Grade 4 or functional skills level 2
  • Competent with venepuncture clinical skill.

Desirable

  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Understanding of privacy and dignity
  • Experience of blood glucose/ketone testing/management
