Job summary
The successful candidate will be based in the Anaesthetic Department at Doncaster, carrying out general anaesthetic duties across the Trust and participating in the general anaesthesia on-call rota at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.At present the frequency of on calls is 1:14, but can vary from1:12 to 1:15, this attracts 3% on call supplement. During your on call duties you will be covering general emergency theatre, obstetric theatres and A&E calls (if 2nd on call anaesthetist requires your input).
This role will also include clinical sessions within our Chronic Pain service at Mexborough Montague Hospital. This is a purpose built unit, recently completed following a £3 million investment in the site.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role are to carry out all Anaesthetic Consultant responsibilities within our Anaesthetic services across our sites.
The service is committed to a strong training culture and participates in an established rotational training programme in conjunction with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as the administrative centre. The department thus maintains good close academic links with the teaching centres in Sheffield and is part of the Yorkshire and Humber school of Anaesthesia.
The appointee will take their equal share of providing emergency anaesthetic cover working the on-call consultant rota based at Doncaster and will be expected to provide cover on a reciprocal basis for Consultant colleagues during short periods of absence. 1.75 PA currently is allocated for the on-call work which currently is a 1:14 general on-call (including maternity, trauma and ED)
The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and for the proper functioning of the department. Involvement in research where appropriate is encouraged.

About us
We are looking for an enthusiastic General Anaesthetist Consultant to join a well-established Anaesthetic Department. Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first wave of Foundation Hospitals, it achieved this status by receiving three stars in the Government's star rating system. Since achieving Foundation status the Trust has continued to maintain its position. It was rated as Excellent for Well-Led and Caring by the CQC. We are an expanding Teaching Hospital and provide opportunities for the enthusiastic consultant to develop their interests. The Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain provides anaesthetic cover for three Trust sites, maintains Critical Care facilities and Chronic Pain Clinics. The successful applicant will join the Department's on call rota at the Doncaster site. The anaesthetic service consists of 42 Consultants, 20 SAS doctors and 20 Trainees and covers all the areas expected from a large hospital. Medical specialties include inpatient nephrology and satellite dialysis units on 2 other sites. Day time sessions are allocated flexibly and may occur on any of the Trust's sites, a degree of subspecialisation is supported for all staff. The Department actively supports an educational programme for specialty doctors, MTI doctors and Medical Students. Supporting programme activities are 1.5 for revalidation and additional can be negotiated up to 2.5 SPAs for those with interests to offer the Trust

- M.B.B.S or equivalent qualification registered with the GMC
- You must be on the specialist register for Anaesthetics or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be on the GMC specialist register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
- Continue to hold a licence to practice
