We are looking for an enthusiastic General Anaesthetist to join a well-established Anaesthetic Department as a Specialty Doctor. Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first waves of Foundation Hospitals, it achieved this status by consistently receiving three stars in the Government's star rating system. Since achieving Foundation status the Trust has continued to maintain its position and was rated as Excellent for Well-Led and Caring by the Care Quality Commission. We are an expanding Teaching Hospital and provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic consultant to develop their interests.
Main duties of the job
The Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain provides anaesthetic cover for three of the Trust's sites, maintains Critical Care facilities on two of the Trust's sites and Chronic Pain Clinics on two sites. The successful applicant will join the Department's on call rota at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The main clinical duties will include theatre sessions, critical care and obstetrics. In addition, the successful candidates will participate in the out-of-hours / emergency cover rota, complying with the Trust working time directive.There is a 1:8 on call rota , covering ITU, theatres and obstetrics depending on the demand in each area. On calls could be on any of the trust sites (Doncaster and Bassetlaw).

The anaesthetic service currently consists of 42 Consultants, 20 SAS doctors and 20 Trainees and covers all the areas expected from a large hospital. If working alone, the post-holder will seek the guidance of the duty Consultant when clinically indicated. The post-holder may also cover lists alongside other anaesthetic doctors, including trainees.
This post offers opportunities in either education or quality improvement. It is expected that during the post, the theoretical and practical application of the chosen specialty is explored; active involvement in the wider activity of the department is strongly encouraged and will be supported.

- MBchB/MBBS or equivalent
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies(evidence of CT2 and above competencies)
- Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise.
