Job summary
The Division of Surgery and Cancer would like to invite applicants for a Band 3 post to join the Medical Secretary team within Trauma and Orthopaedics at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals.
There is one position available for 30 hours, the post is to support Consultant surgeons and the clinical team.
They will need experience in managing the robust systems in place for the administrative engagement of patient pathways. They will need to be able to work flexibly as part of the team - sometimes across sites - to produce clinical correspondence using Medisec digital transcription software from outpatient and inpatient attendances.
Experience in using the PTL (Patient Tracker List) to manage patient's pathway is paramount. A knowledge of medical terminology alongside previous experience of working in a clerical / secretarial role is desirable.
You will be required to display tact and diplomacy, and have developed communication skills when dealing with senior staff, patients, colleagues and the general public.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support named clinicians and support their colleagues to provide an efficient support to all members of the clinical teams. The post holder will be required to work across site - Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals due to service needs.

- Undertake appropriate checks to ensure all clinical outcomes have been recorded correctly and timely on the PAS system, taking basic corrective action when required via agreed standard operating procedures.
- Identify any patterns and trends with incorrect recording/missing data, liaising directly with other members of clinical administration teams to educate and correct to ensure validity of Trust information reports/patient pathway status, referring to the Team Leader as and when required
- Use knowledge to provide guidance on pathway coordination to promote awareness amongst colleagues and clinical teams to support the development of a Right First Time culture
- Cross cover for secretarial colleagues where applicable.

Essential
- ECDL or Equivalent
- RSA III or equivalent level typing qualification
- Minimum of 3 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above or equivalent
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 Admin and Clerical
- Knowledge of medical terminology/ accreditation
- Business Administration Level 2 Apprenticeship
- Conflict resolution skills
- Ability to initiate and coordinate change to own working practices for service improvement.
