Job summary

This is a prime opportunity for a Locum Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our modern and forward thinking Foundation Trust which is a medium sized Trust with big ambitions. Competency in independent management of labour ward is essential. Applications are welcome from candidates who have other skills/ special interests which compliment department's need. We're aiming to be in the top 10% for everything we do. To get there we're improving our organisation to be more suited to how patients use our services. We serve a population of over 420,000 people across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire. We are also an Associate Teaching Hospital of the University of Sheffield and an Associate College of Sheffield Hallam University.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a flexible, dynamic and enthusiastic individual who is committed to team working to join an existing team of Consultants providing a comprehensive Obstetric and Gynaecology service. The successful applicant should possess MRCOG (or equivalent). ATSM in Obstetric medicine is desirable criteria. This post has non-resident on call cover at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary site. Applicants must have, or be eligible to hold, full registration with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification (equivalent must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC)
  • Applicants must continue to hold full GMC registration and continue to hold a License to Practice
  • Completion of Advanced Labour Ward practice Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM)

Desirable

  • You must be on the specialist register for Obstetrics and Gynecology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be on the GMC specialist register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Completion of Maternal/ Obstetric Medicine Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) or equivalent experience
  • Completion of labour ward lead Module (ATSM)
  • Relevant higher degree

Experience

Desirable

  • Understanding of current NHS management and Trusts and be aware of the responsibilities that a consultant post brings
  • Clinical training and experience in General Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT holder and a statement regarding appropriate training and experience relating to Obstetric medicine
  • Experience of delivering PROMPTMDT training/ live simulation drill
  • Participation in medical termination of pregnancy management

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
  • Experience of supervising Junior Medical Staff

Desirable

  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education
