Job summary

The Trauma & Orthopaedic Department of Doncaster Royal Infirmary & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor in order to expand the current service.

The post holder is expected to work in a team of seventeen Consultants, eleven Staff and Associate Specialist Surgeons (this post being the twelfth), three Specialty Trainees and two International Trainees in order to deliver clinical care of a high quality to Trauma & Orthopaedic patients at one of the busiest District General Hospital Trusts in England.

Main duties of the job

The principle role of the post-holder is to be an active member of the team. The post-holder is expected to undertake clinics and contribute time and effort to the day-to-day clinical matters that may arise. The post-holder is expected to take a teamwork approach to relationships with other departments, clinic and theatre staff.

There will be prospective cover for annual and study leave.

The post-holder is invited to contribute to academic, audit and clinical governance issues within the department and the Trust.

About us

The Trust has a catchment population of circa 450,000, and the Trauma & Orthopaedics Department operates at 3 sites: Doncaster Royal Infirmary in Doncaster, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough, and Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop.

The department is committed to the training, development and career progression of its clinical team. Doctors rotate through sub-specialties to ensure structured clinical exposure, and there is regular Consultant led teaching.

Day to day work is based on a team structure with each SASS/Reg/MTI working with a specific Consultant although there may be lists or clinics with other Consultants either as part of a rota arrangement or to cover annual leave.

As a key member of the Consultant led team, the successful applicant will provide support to a team of Core / Foundation Trainees / Trust Doctors and Advance Scope Practitioners in the care of T&O inpatients. The candidate will participate in relevant sub-specialty Fracture and Elective clinics and theatre lists. There will be adequate opportunities to learn procedural skills in all sub-specialties on a rotation basis.

Essential

  • MBchB/MBBS or equivalent
  • Completion of Core Training or equivalent within the specialty
  • Applicants must have full GMC registration and continue to hold a Licence to Practise

Experience and Achievements

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in Trauma and Orthopaedics expected of a doctor at Specialty Doctor Level
  • At least 2 years of experience as within Trauma & Orthopaedics
