Job summary
A qualified audiologist who has progressed with sufficient experience to no longer require direct supervision. He/she will therefore work regularly away from the base without immediate support, and is therefore required to be competent at all routine duties.
Applicants should hold the relevant qualifications and be registered with the RCCP or eligible to register immediately.
As this post will require travelling to out reach clinics and home visits a driver's licence would be desirable.
This post provides an ongoing training commitment to national BSc Healthcare Science (Audiology) students.
At this level the Audiologist will be expected to use critical thinking and clinical reasoning to deal with more complex patient issues. The post holder will also be required to negotiate with patients and medical staff any treatment or rehabilitation conflicts using evidence base skills gathered.
In addition to the duties listed below, the audiologist must maintain continuous professional development.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the MDT, Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised plans of patient care.
- Effectively communicate with patients, relatives, and other members of the audiology team.
- Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out and supporting with audiologist procedures.
- Ensure all areas within the audiology unit are prepared safely and according to procedure.
- Ensure all technical equipment is checked prior to procedures and is in good working order.
- Be aware of own individual responsibilities and training needs and keep up to date with mandatory training.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment and report any untoward incident.
- Respect patient's confidentiality.
- Keep accurate nursing records.
- Work in accordance with the Audiologist code of professional conduct.
- Assessment and fitting for post aural hearing aids and bone anchored hearing aids for adults and paediatrics.

- Selection and fitting or exchange of a full range of hearing aids to adults, to include a significant number of adults with other disabilities; including some with other sensory disabilities.
- Direct referral
- Domiciliary duties.
- Ward visits/assessments
- Aural rehabilitation on patients with additional special needs other than hearing loss to include children.
- Undertake a battery of audiometric tests to assist in the differential
- Diagnosis of auditory dysfunction
- Tests on young children and assistance in auditory rehabilitation programmes for young children
- Assistance with the evaluation and management of tinnitus
- Assistance with routine tests of vestibular function
- Assistance with routine objective test procedures include ERA
- Assistance with selection, fitting or exchange of non standard hearing aids to children
- Any other duties as may be discussed and agreed with the line manager
- Maintain own professional standards through registration and CPD, by attending relevant study sessions, maintaining a professional portfolio for assessment and reporting back to staff in the department.
