Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated librarian or knowledge and information specialist to join the Knowledge & Library Service team at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of high quality knowledge & library services to all staff and learners at the Trust and contracted organisations.

The post is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a requirement to work at other sites at least one day per week (a shuttle bus is available).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • To play a key role in the delivery of high quality knowledge & library services to all staff and students at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and contracted organisations
  • To mobilise knowledge, information and research evidence to support evidence-based patient care, clinical and managerial decision making, service improvement, clinical governance, research, education and continuing professional development.
  • To deliver proactive Knowledge & Library services, promoting resources and services to a wide range of NHS staff; conducting complex literature searches, providing end-users training to use resources effectively, and delivering current awareness services.
  • To contribute to the day to day delivery of front facing services at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals libraries.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide an effective, in depth enquiry service. This requires knowledge of a wide range of clinical and non-clinical reference sources and the ability to determine, in consultation with the users, relevant resources which meet their needs most effectively.
  • To utilise expert knowledge of databases and other electronic information resources in carrying out complex evidence searches, appraising the information retrieved and make judgements on what to communicate to the enquirer depending on the value of evidence and relevance to the request.
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders to support public and patient information and develop health and wellbeing information services to ensure patients, carers and the public are directed to suitable reliable sources of information
  • Plan and deliver comprehensive information skills training including basic and advanced literature searching, e-resources, health literacy and referencing for individuals or groups tailoring content and approach to the needs and abilities of the audience
  • To provide high level advice on the choice of databases and other electronic resources and on the most effective searching strategies for retrieval of appropriate evidence-based literature
  • Conduct library induction sessions for new library members and groups.
  • To provide a current awareness service to staff, which brings news, new research and good practice to their attention which includes producing bulletins, setting up alerts, developing and maintaining evidence updates through KnowledgeShare, and keeping the website up-to-date
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the library service, including the management of information systems, user support, inter-library loans, document supply and library desk cover and enquiry service.
  • Assist with cataloguing and classifying book stock using the Library Management System to ensure ease of access by users, in accordance with local standards
  • Support the Knowledge Resources Specialist with the selection and purchase of print journals, eJournals and other electronic resources, by identifying stock gaps, new editions of core texts and other items for acquisition and withdrawal.
