Job summary
Bassetlaw TriHealth Sexual Health Services based at Ryton St, Worksop, with a spoke clinic at Retford.
We are looking for an experienced nurse practitioner/health adviser who is passionate about delivering contraception and sexual health to join our team.
Our team provides an integrated sexual health service, combining contraception, genito-urinary medicine and HIV provision.
The successful candidate will receive support from the team to enhance and develop their nursing skills in contraception and sexual health.

Main duties of the job
To deliver comprehensive sexual health and contraceptive services to the population of Bassetlaw. This includes providing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic care for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), a full range of contraception including LARC and health advising. Underpinning the service delivery are safeguarding for adults and young people and health promotion services.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Governance
- Ensure adherence to Trust policies and procedures. (Including mandatory and statutory training)
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- To actively participate in research/audit on a regular basis, disseminating findings to MDT and contribute to service development.
- Use sound judgement in assessing conflicting priorities and needs.
- Report any concerns, adverse incidents, potential breaches of trust or Departmental policies or guidelines
- Utilise patient group directives (PGDs), as an integral component of treatment plans in accordance with clinical guidelines based on efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness.
Management
- Attend and contribute at Clinical Management and Quality meetings.
- Work closely with other members of the team to provide reproductive and sexual health care to the Bassetlaw area.
- To participate in departmental audits to report on service and standards of care in order to positively influence decision-making and planning.
- Be aware of budgetary boundaries and constraints and refer to the budget holder when necessary.
- Ordering and maintenance of stock levels.
- Management / PDA of other team members.
- Actively agree and develop an area of specialist interest.
Leadership
- Act as a leader in the absence of a Band 7 lead
- Manage and support other staff
- Be prepared to undertake the role of link nurse
- Be actively involved in the evaluation of Nurse Practitioner services and development of new models for delivery of care.
- Utilise communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Communicate the patients health status to relevant members of the MDT and other outside organisations using appropriate terminology, format and technology. The course of this communication process involves the discussion of complicated issues and the sharing of delicate information on a regular basis.
- Act on referrals from other departments to implement beneficial recommendations.

- Keep up to date on clinical and professional developments in line with evidence-based practise; share knowledge with other team members where appropriate.
- Take every reasonable opportunity to maintain and improve own professional knowledge and competence.
- Act as a mentor for junior colleagues.

Clinical
- Safeguard the patients well being by maintaining NMC standards of clinical nursing care, ensuring trust Policies and Procedures are adhered to.
- Provide 1-2-1 support and advice to patients with concerns about their reproductive and sexual heath.
- Triage patients and assist in the management of clinic sessions to ensure patient safety and support the workforce
- To deliver contraception as a non medical prescriber or in line with departmental PGDs and to give advice on all methods of contraception including LARC (Long-Acting Reversible Contraception) and safe sexual practice
- Provide advice on all contraception methods
- To be competent in the practical skills to supply appropriate methods of contraception
- To fit and remove subdermal implants as per faculty of sexual and reproductive health guidance.
- Take a comprehensive history, perform relevant tests, examinations and provide treatment to both male and female patients with concerns about their sexual health.
- To give advice on, and supply medication for genital infections as a non-medical prescriber or in line with departmental PGDs for the patient with sexual health needs.
- Evaluate the patients condition and response to therapeutic interventions and modify the plan of care accordingly for optimal outcomes.
- Formulate a diagnosis utilising medical diagnostic problem-solving skills including history taking, physical examination, invasive and non-invasive investigations which involves contact with potentially infectious biological substances on a regular basis.

- Provide partner notification, counselling and support

- Provide health promotion and disease prevention services to patients who are healthy or have acute and/or chronic conditions by giving anticipatory guidance and counselling to promote health, reduce risk factors and prevent disease and disability.

- Communicate across language and cultural barriers within particular client groups, (e.g. Asylum Seekers and Refugees) in partnership with the available agencies and interpretation services.
