Professional At all times work in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Codeof Professional Conduct, maintaining clinical competence. Maintain the highest standard of patient care, ensuring all care is inaccordance with national and local policies and procedures. Will utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with patientsand those involved in their care. Respect patient confidentiality and in particular, the confidentiality ofelectronically stored personal/manual data, in line with the requirements ofthe Data Protection Act (1998). Ensure the implementation of safe working practices in accordance with theTrust policy, reporting discrepancies, using the Adverse Incident reportingsystem, ensuring Line Manager is informed in a timely manner. Develop post basic skills relevant to the area of practice in accordance withthe Code of Professional Practice (NMC 2002). Be aware of individual responsibilities and maintain a safe environment inaccordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act. Identify and reportimmediately any untoward accident, incident or potential hazard. Supervise the contribution of junior colleagues by ensuring that nursingtreatment protocols and procedures are followed. Will be expected to contribute to individual performance review on an annualbasis. Participate in clinical audit to monitor standard of care. Contribute to the efficient and cost effective use of supplies, ensuring stocksare at a safe level, reporting any deficits to nurse in charge. Ensure regular attendance at staff briefs, ward and departmental meetings. Provide opportunities for patients and relatives to comment on the provisionof service and report any issues to nurse in charge. Co-operate with the investigation of complainants and adverse incidents. Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs according to the Trust Policy.
Education Participate in training programmes for students this will include, preregistration, adaptation, return to practice etc. Following completion of preceptorship and mentorship training, act as amentor/assessor to students. Contribute to the induction of newly appointed junior staff. Attend all statutory lectures, on an annual basis. Pursue personal study of professional developments and clinical nursingmatters. Access professional support systems such as preceptorship/clinicalsupervision. Promote patient health education. Maintain an interest in current trends and developments in nursing atnational and local level.
Infection ControlThe prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of all healthcarepersonnel. Staff members, in conjunction with all relevant professionals willcontribute to the prevention and control of injection through standard infectioncontrol practices and compliance with the Trusts infection control policies in orderto ensure the highest quality of care to patients.
