Job summary
The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics comprises an enthusiastic and highly motivated team of consultants, who provide a variety of subspecialties as well as a general orthopaedic and trauma service. We pride ourselves on our consultant delivered acute trauma management and elective orthopaedics.
This expansion of our services creates the opportunity for a new revision Arthroplasty surgeon to join the department. The job plan will include clinic and theatre sessions in Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw District General Hospital and Mexborough Montagu.
The post holder will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an interest in acute care, and the enthusiasm to further develop the lower limb service within the orthopaedic department.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain and support the continued development of the provision of elective and emergency orthopaedic surgery, working as a key member of the orthopaedic team.
- Provide a comprehensive service to manage Arthroplasty pathology.
- Expand the current provision of the Arthroplasty activity.
- Participate regularly in clinical governance activities and teaching

- To take an active part in the teaching and training of students and junior colleagues.
- To contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education.
- To be part of the formal departmental orthopaedic teaching and training.
- To take an active part in the South Yorkshire Rotation Orthopaedic Training.
- To contribute to the training of nurses, scientific and technical staff.
- To assist with the appraisal and assessment of junior medical staff in accordance with trust and Royal College guidance.
Quality
- To participate in developing a satisfactory and consistent quality of care.
- To participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
- To contribute towards national and departmental research projects.
Management
- To have an active role in the management of the orthopaedic unit.
- To represent the orthopaedic department on local and regional committees.
- To contribute to the management process within the trust through participation in planning, project or liaison groups.
General
- To liaise with colleagues regarding annual leave/study leave.
- To share the responsibility of consultant cover when colleagues are absent.
- To submit requests for leave six weeks in advance.

- FRCS (Tr &Orth) or equivalent
- You must be on the specialist register for Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
