Main duties of the job

The role is to participate in, implement, provide and monitor practice to prevent and control infection, undertaking a range of support activities with clinical staff across the Trust. This will include facilitation of mask fit testing for staff. Provide support on donning and doffing of PPE and monitoring hand hygiene compliance. In addition the post holder will be expected to communicate effectively to patients in conducting Surgical site infection surveillance.

A vital part of the role will involve visits to clinical areas supported by the infection prevention and control team. The role is to promote infection prevention activities and undertake a range of observations and checks in the clinical area. This includes promoting social distancing, mask usage and hand hygiene compliance on Trust sites and appropriately addressing areas of non compliance. The post holder will also undertake other activities, as required, to support in reducing and preventing infection. This requires clear and effective communication with members of staff, patients, relatives and visitors and to obtain, organise and record information clearly and accurately.
