Job summary
The Microbiology Department is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, has full UKAS accreditation and includes a Virology service that is a spoke of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with Consultant input provided by a visiting Virologist.
You will participate in the varied clinical microbiology workload shared between the consultants, including provision of advice on test interpretation, authorisation of results, review of patients with clinical teams, clinical ward rounds and advice on appropriate antimicrobial therapy and infection control.
Main duties of the job
- To manage all aspects of laboratory work on a day-to-day basis.
- To continually assess methods used and maintain UKAS standards,
- To engage in budgetary management and business planning.
- To manage and plan staffing and equipment requirements.
- To maintain high levels of input and advice to clinicians,
- To direct and influence antimicrobial usage within the Trust, and develop the Trust Antibiotic Policies participating in ward rounds.
- To work closely with the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and other Consultant Microbiologists carrying out the Infection Control Programme for the Trust, the local CCGs of Bassetlaw and Doncaster.
- Bassetlaw CCG provides an IPC service by a team of community based Infection, Prevention and Control Practitioners, while Doncaster community IPC are provided by Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber Trust (RDASH) and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
