Job summary
We are currently looking for Service Assistants to join our Services Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The Service Department is responsible for the delivery of cleaning, catering (ward based) and portering services.

Position 1: 22.5 hpw, Team 3 Ward 24 & 25 - Zone 3&4, working 07:30 - 15:30 3 days in 7 , may include BH & WE
Position 2 : 22.5 hpw, Team 2 Ward 22 & DCC - Zone 3&4, working 07:30 - 15:30 3 days in 7 , may include BH & WE
Position 3 : 30 hpw, Relief Team - Zone 3&4 Flexibility required, 4 days in 7. 7.5 hour shifts between 06:00 & 20:00, may include BH & WE.
Position 4 : 30 hpw, Team 2 Ward 18 & 19- Zone 3&4, working 07:30 - 15:30 4 days in 7, may include BH & WE
Position 5:30 hpw, Team 1 Wards S11 & S12- Zone 5, working 07.30 - 15.30, 4 days in 7, may include BH & WE
Main duties of the job
This is a physically active role with elements of operating cleaning equipment, carrying, lifting & moving patients & items. Therefore, the person undertaking this role will need to be relatively physically fit.
Main responsibilities are:-
Provide cleaning, beverage & hydration services to a designated area
Move patients on beds, trolleys and wheelchairs
Move equipment around the site
Implement infection control procedures.
Complete quality assurance checks.
Develop relationships/communication and teamwork with healthcare personnel.
Respond to requests from patients/relatives relating to the ward environment.
Implement waste segregation legislation.

Job responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning in line with agreed cleaning schedules.
- Implement infection control procedures for cleaning.
- Carry out deep cleaning tasks (excluding HPV disinfecting).
- Remove and replace curtains.
- Collect and clear after meal service.
- Serve beverages to patients breakfast, mid-morning, lunch mid-afternoon and supper.
- Collect wash and replenish water jugs and glasses.
- Report repairs and faults to the Estates Help Desk.
- Secondary respondent to Fire and the Major Incident Plan.
- Remove and transport waste to designated store areas.
- To follow Trust Policies, Procedures and Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Complete clerical duties - self audit forms.
- To use technology bleeps, pagers, touch screen devices.
- Patient movement wheelchair, trolley, bed.
- Collect, change and replace medical gas bottles.
- Deliver and move equipment/product around the site.
- Collect and deliver specimens/pharmacy.
The prevention and control of infection is an integral part of the role of all health care personnel. Staff members, in conjunction with all relevant professionals will contribute to the prevention and control of infection through standard infection control practices and compliance with the Trust's infection control policies in order to ensure the highest quality of care to patients.
If your normal duties are directly or indirectly concerned with patient care you must ensure you receive sufficient training, information and supervision on the measures required to prevent and control risks of infection.
