Job summary
This is a 30 month, time-limited full time appointment to work on a British Heart Foundation funded study:Academic, cognitive, motor, psychosocial and quality of life outcomes in children aged 9-11 years after surgery for complex congenital heart disease in infancy - the APOLLO study, which is led by GOSH in collaboration with UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, University of Leicester, Evelina Children's Hospital, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Bristol Children's Hospital. The study involves following up a group of children aged 9-11 years old with congenital heart disease and undertaking a face-to-face assessment with each child. In addition, we will also recruit an age-matched healthy classmate for each child with congenital heart disease and they will be assessed with the same measures. Assessments will take place at the child's school. Parents will also be asked to complete some questionnaires and a small subset will be invited to participate in a face-to-face or virtual interview about their child's progress at school and any support their child receives.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint two research fellows who will be responsible for all aspects of data collection, data cleaning and the analysis of the interviews. The post holder(s) will work closely with the chief investigator to optimise data collection and will also be responsible for organising study steering group meetings and meetings with our PPIE members. In addition, the post holder will work alongside other members of ORCHID (a team of allied health and nursing researchers and clinical academics) to support nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs) in all aspects of the research process, facilitating their involvement in research and assisting them in disseminating research findings to advance the care of children and young people.
About us
We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we'll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.
Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women's networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.
We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
