Job summary
We are looking for a Practice Educator for our paediatric mental health unit.The Mildred Creak Unit is a children's inpatient mental health unit situated within The Psychological and Mental Health Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the heart of London. The Unit cares for young people aged 7 - 14 years old with a range of severe and complex mental health difficulties.An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to work within our dynamic multidisciplinary team and work as part of education team at GOSH. Our model of working is based on the Therapeutic Milieu. Previous experience in CAMHS is essential for this challenging and very rewarding role. You will be required to work within a team of dedicated nurses and a wide variety of other disciplines. Good communication and organisational skills are essential, as is experience with this patient group.
Main duties of the job
The role involves supporting nursing staff and encouraging their development, this includes staff nurses from child and mental health backgrounds, experienced therapeutic care workers and healthcare assistants.This will include:o Promote high standards of care through the demonstration of clinical expertiseo Supporting qualified nurses to gain their competencies,o Working with staff nurses to develop into senior staff nurses,o Teaching on academic and inhouse study days teaching on mental health awareness and strategies.o Support the ward managers with retention and recruitmento To run study days and inductions on the regular basis.o Ensure that staff are kept up to date in changes of practice and improvements in care.
