Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacist, with Cancer experience, looking to develop a specialism in Paediatric Cancer. We are looking for someone who puts patients at the centre of their practice and is proactive in their learning.
Full training will be provided and specialist Paediatric experience, whilst desirable, is not essential. As a Specialist Pharmacist, you will rotate through the different areas of the team, gaining experience and having the opportunity to develop services and make improvements. You will see every side of Paediatric Cancer from diagnostic work up, treatment, side effect management and long term surveillance in both Inpatient and Outpatient settings. Based on your progression, as a senior in year 2-3, you will have the opportunity to work in more complex areas such as BMT, Car-T Cell, Palliative Care and Clinical Trials.
We are looking for someone who not only takes responsibility for their own learning, but is also proactive in teaching colleagues and the wider network. There will be an opportunity to supervise foundation year Pharmacists and Band 6 Pharmacists through their rotation in Haem-Onc. In addition you will attend ward rounds, MDTs, counsel patients, work up new drugs, protocols, develop guidelines and help improve processes within and outside of Pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
- To be a member of a team of Specialist Pharmacists in Haematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, who provide a comprehensive Clinical Pharmacy Service to Inpatient and Outpatients Wards
- To monitor prescribing practices in the unit and provide feedback and recommendations to improve standards and guidelines
- To participate in specialist oncall service
- Act as a releasing officer under the terms of the Specials License
- To work closely with the Cytotoxic Unit for the safe provision of Chemotherapy
- To participate and lead in the teaching/training of foundation year Pharmacists, postgraduate Pharmacists, Nurses and medical staff as appropriate
- To participate in departmental and multidisciplinary audit/research activities, to ensure that cost improvement and quality targets are met.
- To attend departmental meetings, keep one's self informed and maintain CPD, and communicate information
- To comply with all Trust and Departmental policies & procedures, work safely and efficiently
