GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Trust Fellows (ST1/2 Equivalent) in Paediatric Surgical Sub-specialties - Fixed Term contract commencing August 2025 - Ending August 2026
Interested in a career in child health, with previous NHS experience, but not ready to commit to run through training?
GOSH has ST1/2 equivalent Fellow posts offering great experience in a well-supported environment. These posts offer unique clinical experience with our specialist surgical teams, who care for complex patients with multiple medical needs and is backed up by a formal Level 1 teaching programme delivered in association with the London School of Paediatrics.
The posts commence in August 2025 and offer experience spread across Specialist Neonatal & Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Urology and Paediatric ENT.
These posts are ideal for doctors with NHS experience, completing or having completed foundation or core training who wish to gain further specialist paediatric experience, as well as those wishing to pursue a career in paediatric surgical specialities. Successful candidates will be educationally supervised and given the opportunity to complete appropriate research projects, as well as attending postgraduate courses inside and outside the trust.
*Post will be closed early if high level of applications are received*
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will be offered a rotation of 1-2 posts within surgical specialties; this will be guided by candidate preference at the time of interview. The specialties offered are:
Specialist Neonatal and Paediatric Surgery
Paediatric Urology
Paediatric ENT
Paediatric Plastic Surgery
Paediatric Orthopaedics
The vast majority of time will be spent working within the parent speciality during any given six-month period, but post holders would be expected to cross cover other specialities when required.
There is inevitable variation in the pattern of work between departments, but the post holders will be responsible for the admission and ward management of elective cases including preparation for theatre and post-operative care. They are expected to be available to assist in theatre during operation lists and to be available to be trained as appropriate. The Trust does not have an Accident and Emergency department but there are regular emergency admissions.
All junior staff have the opportunity to attend Outpatient clinics. Doctors in training receive support and supervision from both the surgical and general paediatric consultants in the care of the complex inpatient population.
