Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 29 January 2025

Job summary

We are seeking skilled, compassionate, and proactive individuals to join the NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service (London) as an Administrator. This is a pivotal role within a nationally networked service, providing vital administrative support and exceptional customer care to children, young people, and their families during their care journey.

Applicants should have experience delivering high-quality administrative support as part of a diverse and inclusive team. Proven expertise in business administration and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a dynamic and sensitive environment are essential.

The post holder will act as the first point of contact at the reception desk, ensuring timely, relevant advice and assistance to all children and young people, their families, and other visitors. They will support the department by providing excellent administrative services, including typing and formatting documents, supporting meetings and projects, maintaining databases, and undertaking other responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Candidates must have a good general level of education, with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent.

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Please note that this vacancy may close earlier than the advertised closing date if a sufficient number of applications are received. We encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

The NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service is delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes paediatricians, mental health practitioners, youth workers, nurses, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists. The service provides in-depth assessments of children and young people's needs and develops personalised care plans in collaboration with them and, if needed, those supporting them. A range of care interventions may be offered, depending on the individual's requirements.

As the first point of contact for callers, visitors, and deliveries, the post holder will interact with a diverse range of individuals and will manage enquiries with professionalism and sensitivity. Core responsibilities will include:

Delivering exceptional customer care to children, young people, and their families.

Performing general office duties such as maintaining stationery supplies, sorting mail, photocopying, filing, and assisting with site management.

Providing administrative support to the service team, including managing databases, supporting projects and meetings, and preparing documents.

Due to the nature of the service, the post holder must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in their approach to work, accommodating evolving priorities and systems.

About us

Following the recommendations of the Cass Review, NHS England has developed a new clinical model for gender identity services for children and young people, emphasising regional delivery through multidisciplinary care centres.

The London regional centre, based in London, is delivered by a partnership of Evelina London Children's Hospital (part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

The North West regional centre, based in Manchester and Liverpool, is delivered by a partnership of Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust). As of 2024, the South West regional centre, based at University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, also went live, further strengthening the national network of hubs.

These centres work together to provide high-quality, timely care to young people across the UK, including addressing the national waiting list. Additional centres are expected to launch in the future as the service continues to evolve and expand its reach.

We are committed to fostering an environment that values diversity, promotes equality of opportunity, and ensures all staff and families feel respected and supported.
