Cancer services for children are evolving rapidly, and children are surviving longer with new, complex presentations managed between specialist centres and primarycare. We are looking for an experienced Band 6/ Band 7 Physiotherapist with aspecial interest in Paediatric Cancer, to join our dynamic, forward thinking andfriendly Paediatric Physiotherapy team. An exciting opportunity as Cancer and SCT services at GOSH expand; incorporating research and adoption of noveltherapies alongside the building of the new Cancer Centre at GOSH.You will be based across the Cancer inpatient and daycare wards, and also the Immunology and Stem Cell Transplant Unit. Be able to work flexibly in a fast paced and busy clinical environment, and be able to promote good health andwellbeing. Paediatric Cancer experience is essential and you must be passionate about providing a high quality tertiary service to children, young people (0- 18 years) and their families requiring Cancer and Stem Cell Transplant care.Experience of Paediatric Oncology/Stem Cell Transplantation and acute neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation of children, good communication skills and excellent team working abilities are essential for this post. Additionalexpertise and experience in respiratory management of a complex child, equipment/orthotic provision, and management of musculoskeletal presentations andfatigue will also be required.
Main duties of the job
- To be a physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of paediatric Oncology, Immunology and SCT patients for inpatient, and outpatient paediatric services - both acutely during treatment, and after treatment in Long Term Follow Up clinics.
- To deliver treatment based on advanced theoretical and practical knowledge including appropriate highly specialist skills. Knowledge of splinting, orthotics and equipment provision is essential.
- To be responsible for evaluating patient progress with the use of appropriate outcome measures and goal setting tools. To reassess and alter treatment programmes as required
- To provide supervision and clinical support to the rotational band 6 physiotherapy staff, physiotherapy assistants and students to meet individual and service needs.
- Deliver expert education internally and externally (locally, nationally and internationally) to multiprofessional groups.
- To work with the Band 8a Physiotherapist in the team and assist in the clinical pathway deliverance and service development within the Oncology, Haematology, Immunology and BMT paediatric physiotherapy services at GOSH, helping to shape these servicesappropriately to respond to growing & changing clinical landscapes and the development of more advanced care option
- A flexible approach to working and will require the post holder to be an active member of the on-call, weekend duty rotas including cover of statutory and public holidays and working as a lone physiotherapy practitioner at night.
