Job summary

The paediatric neuromuscular centre at the GOSH Institute of Child Health is one of the largest in Europe, with more than 2,000 patients seen each year. A number of experimental therapeutic approaches are being developed for spinal muscular atrophy and other neuromuscular conditions including Nemaline myopathy. It is essential that all these trials have validated outcome measures. The diverse range of patients means that there is opportunity for development of skills and knowledge and this is supported by our education and senior nursing and medical teams. The experience and specialist knowledge within the clinical and research teams ensures the delivery of an excellent standard of clinical care and provides a whole host of learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work in the GOSH-ICH paediatric centre and contribute to the development and coordination of the neuromuscular research portfolios including the Nemaline Myopathy trial and SMA REACH UK natural history study.

In addition will contribute to the co-ordination and implementation of a number of research programmes. The candidate may be responsible for liaison with families, recruitment of participants, facilitation of the consent process, administration of the clinical interventions required as part of the study, observing and responding to side effects (e.g. unexpected fall), as well as liaising with research staff in the Trust, drug companies and other study sponsors and ensuring the accurate collection and submission of data, in line with the study protocols and research regulations.
