Job summary
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical psychologist to join our team. You will take a lead in developing and providing psychological input to patients under the immunology service. There will be wide-ranging psychological input including work around developmental assessments, family work, supporting children who are acutely unwell as inpatients as well as supporting children who are under the care of the immunology long term follow up clinic. The role requires the post holder to feel confident working within medical MDTs and with children who may have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
This is an interesting and exciting role that sits in the Long Term Health (LTH) Conditions Cluster, which is part of the Psychological Services and Mental Health Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The Long Term Health Cluster works with the cancer, cardio-respiratory, critical care, infectious diseases, HIV, Immunology, bone marrow transplant and palliative care teams. The wide range of medical specialties provide an opportunity for working with a large range of different psychological presentations in a variety of different settings, and there are opportunities for developing expertise in staff support as well as supervision, line management and service development.
Main duties of the job
- To be responsible for providing a specialist, systematic and autonomous clinical psychology service within the specialist clinical area, in accordance with objectives agreed with clinical and professional managers. The post will require independent management of caseload and provision of a psychology service with appropriate supervision and professional management, as per BPS and HCPC guidelines
- To provide consultation and expertise to the staff teams working within these services, including facilitating debriefs and reflective practice. The post holder will manage and supervise other qualified psychologists, assistant psychologists and other more junior staff/trainees as agreed with the consultant psychologist for the stream.
- To provide clinical placements for trainee clinical psychologists, ensuring that trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to good psychological care and to contribute to the assessment and evaluation of such competencies. To provide clinical supervision to assistant psychologists, as appropriate.
- To take part in the evaluation, monitoring and development of the multidisciplinary team's operational policies through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit and ensuring incorporation of psychological frameworks for understanding and provision of high quality care.
