Specialist Registrar training post in Fetal and Paediatric Cardiology

Full Time (1.0 WTE) - 1 year Fixed Term

An opportunity for a 1 Year, full time, training post in Fetal Cardiology has arisen at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Start date 2nd October 2024

The successful candidate will have the opportunity for training and experience in all aspects of Fetal Cardiology. The postholder will be expected to participate in a wide range Fetal Cardiology activities including GOSH Fetal Cardiology outpatient clinics and meetings, Fetal Cardiology outreach clinics and teaching and training. The timetable will be approximately 70% fetal cardiology and 30% paediatric cardiology. The post holder will also join the cardiology registrar on call rota.

Candidates must be registered with the GMC at the time of application. Priority for appointment would be given to a trainee with a UK National Training Number (NTN)

Main duties of the job

There is daily (Monday - Friday) on site Fetal Cardiology clinics. Duties will include hands on training in Fetal echocardiography scanning, assisting with counselling, liaison with referring obstetric and neonatal units, and the management of the Fetal Cardiology service. Duties may also be required at outreach Fetal Cardiology clinics, particularly those held at University College London Hospital (weekly) or Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge (twice monthly). The post holder will spend 30% of the working week timetable in paediatric cardiology. This will include all aspects of the general trainee's rota including ward cover, outpatient clinic, and assisting with internal and external bleep cover. The post holder will join the middle grade on call rota in paediatric cardiology.

The service is supported by the clinical lead for fetal cardiology and 3 consultants in Paediatric Cardiology who have part time responsibility in Fetal Cardiology, a full-time specialist sonographer, 3 clinical nurse specialists (2 WTEs), and 1 WTE secretarial support. The Fetal Cardiology service scans approximately 2500 pregnancies annually.

Shared office space and computer access will be provided.

Liaison with the GOSH cardiac services team will be facilitated by attendance at the weekly Echocardiography meeting, the weekly Joint Cardiac Conference, and the weekly cardiac unit Clinical Governance meeting and the weekly fetal governance meeting.
