GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

Heart and Lung Directorate

CONSULTANT IN CARDIOVASCULAR IMAGING

Applications are invited for a post as a Consultant in Cross-sectional Cardiovascular Imaging, based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The post involves supervision and reporting of cardiovascular MR and CT and presenting cross-sectional imaging at joint clinical cardiovascular conferences. There is no on-call commitment.

This substantive and full-time post is suitable for candidates with completed senior training in paediatric cardiology, adult cardiology or radiology, and candidates are invited who have extensive experience in MR and CT in congenital heart disease in both children and adults and in paediatric acquired heart disease.

The post is in the Cardiovascular MR and CT Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, which is one of the leading imaging centres of its kind in the world. The unit delivers a comprehensive MR and CT service for the Cardiac Unit in the Cardiorespiratory Division, which is an exciting and innovative unit that aspires to provide the highest possible quality of care.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the GMC. MRCP/MRCPCH/FRCR (or equivalent) is essential for the post. Where equivalent qualifications or experience is being offered, it is essential that the candidate can provide written confirmation of this.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for the continued delivery of Cardiovascular Imaging Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Specific duties will depend on relevant skills and experience of the appointed consultant.

The postholder will be required to perform clinical CT and MR scanning lists, scanning paediatric and adult patients with congenital cardiovascular disease and paediatric patients with acquired cardiovascular disease. During scanning lists, they will carry the primary responsibility for supervision of image acquisition, assisting the radiographer with image optimisation, post-processing the images, volumetric and flow quantification, and report writing.

The postholder will be required to take up to three weekly clinical meetings (joint cardiac conferences). This will involve presentation of cardiovascular MR and CT studies carried out within and outside the unit, thereby providing integral input into clinical decisionmaking in the multidisciplinary team.

The postholder will be required to participate in cross-cover of lists and meetings during periods when other consultants are absent, ensuring the smooth running of the imaging services.

The unit carries out nearly 2000 MR scans and 800 CT scans per year across inpatients and outpatients. The scans happen across two MR scanners (Siemens Avanto Fit 1.5T) and one CT scanner (Siemens Force). There is no out-of-hours scanning.
