Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (apprentice) to join the Clinical Research Laboratory Team which is located within the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine, Great Ormond Street Hospital

The recruitment process for all admin and clerical roles at Bands 2-5 will be a two stage recruitment process whereby shortlisted candidates will undertake an online literacy,numeracy, ICT and typing test. Only those candidates who pass the competency test will proceed to a formal interview.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must have at least GCSE in English, Maths and Science grade C (or equivalent). You will be required to complete a fully certified Intermediate Apprenticeship Standard in Healthcare Science. This Apprenticeship is funded for the duration of 18 months.

Applications are welcome from suitable candidates who have good communication skills, able to work well in a team and be able to take initiative and prioritise workload. The work requires consistent attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.

You will also have some knowledge of working within a laboratory, an understanding of basic laboratory procedures and it is also important that the individual has excellent IT skills

To work in the prep laboratory, handling and preparing research samples promptly and efficiently, as dictated by the appropriate study laboratory manual

To be jointly responsible for logging and tracking samples, monitoring the temperatures of the fridge and freezers and reporting any problems with these systems to the Manager in a timely manner.
