Job summary

Chief Operating Officer

World class care requires world class leadership.

We have an exceptional opportunity to join Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) as Chief Operating Officer, joining an exceptional executive team to lead our operational delivery at one of the most exciting, challenging, periods in our evolution.

GOSH is a global centre of excellence in child healthcare. An acute specialist paediatric hospital with a mission to provide world-class care to children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions, the hospital has, since its formation in 1852, been dedicated to children's healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.

Our last five years have seen real progress towards important goals for children's health, as well as a tremendous increase in patients seeking treatment with us, in London, nationally, and internationally. We have recently implemented the EPIC Electronic Patient Record, opening up opportunities for both operational improvement and clinical research, innovation and discovery.

We have started work on our new Cancer Centre, which will support patient flow through the hospital, increasing our capacity and enabling our colleagues to deliver even more excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

Building on these strong foundations, our new COO will be pivotal to our ability ensure every child we see gets the best treatment available. A voting board member, the COO will work in partnership with clinicians across the hospital to understand and refine our complex, inter-connected, pathways of care, and with executive colleagues to deliver transformation and deepen a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

They will oversee the development and refinement of efficient and effective operational systems and ways of working across the Trust. We are looking for an experienced operations executive, with demonstrable experience of working closely with clinical leaders to develop and deliver systems and processes that promote excellent patient care and operational efficiency.

You will have developed a nuanced, flexible, leadership style, and the ability to lead through influence, building strong, impactful, relationships across a variety of stakeholder groups
