Job summary

'LIGMOT" (lower gastrointestinal dysmotility) is a multi-disciplinary team pathway for children with refractory constipation and/or faecal incontinence (soiling), within the gastroenterology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital. is a crucial part of our NEUROGASTROENTEROLOGY AND MOTILITY UNIT. Management of all conditions seen in the service is based on evidence-based medicine or expert consensus-based guidelines/pathways wherever possible. You will be working with an Integrated multidisciplinary team (MDT) working with peer support at all stages of the patient journey.This includes, for example, planning for clinics, admissions and investigation lists and management decisions thereafter. The gastroenterology service at Great Ormond Street is world renowned for its expertise and specialist care provision. We are looking for a dynamic nurse to join us in continuing our great care provision. The ethos of the team is to offer a holistic assessment of a child's needs incorporating both physical and emotional/psychological needs.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will work part-time within the gastroenterology team. The post holder will work under supervision of the consultant leading the Lower Gastrointestinal Dysmotility Service (LIGMOT). The post holder will be direct line managed by the matron for the gastroenterology service.
  • The post holder will liaise directly with external hospitals and community teams to facilitate the safe management of relevant patients.
  • The post holder will liaise directly with the ward manager and administrative team to facilitate admission to the gastroenterology ward.
  • The post holder will carry out preadmission checks and steps.
  • The post holder will manage their own caseload.
  • The post holder will attend LIGMOT Clinic and have nurse led input.
  • The post holder will be an active and visible member of the Motility team.
  • Provide effective nursing leadership, advice and support to the team and department to ensure the provision of high-quality care for all service users.

  • To act as a designated resource for local referring units and the professionals caring for the patients there.
