Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Band 6 rotational programme. You will be working within a large department of over 50 staff who work across a wide range of clinical areas including metabolic medicine, renal, neurology, ketogenic diets, surgery/ITU, oncology/BMT and gastroenterology. The Dietitians are responsible for delivering high-quality nutritional care to paediatric patients from birth to 19 years of age.

You will be developing and using specialised knowledge under supervision from Specialist Dietitians to manage a caseload within the Dietetic team.

The post-holder will have post-registration experience working in general dietetics, exceptional communication, organisation, and prioritisation skills. The successful applicant will be confident in Excel, Word and general computer skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and quality dietetic service for both inpatients and outpatients working to agreed standards, policies and procedures.
  • Developing and using specialised knowledge under supervision from Senior Specialist Dietitians to manage a caseload in a specified clinical area eg cardiology, surgery, oncology, neurology.
  • Development and updating of diet sheets and other educational resources for patients and healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.
  • Close liaison with the diet service technicians and tasks to support the operation and functions of the Special Feeds Unit and Diet Kitchen.
  • Teaching diet service technicians, dietetic assistants, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on all aspects of nutrition and dietary management through informal tutorials and formal study days and mandatory induction events eg Nutrition Bites.
  • Freedom to act interpreting the Health Professions Council code of conduct and working to all agreed standards, policies and procedures within the department and the Trust.
  • Assessment of the patient's needs and making clinical decisions regarding the necessary nutritional support and dietary interventions for all children in the caseload taking into account their diet history, growth and biochemical parameters and any relevant drug treatments
