Job summary
GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Clinical Fellow (Equivalent of ST5+) in Paediatric Interventional Radiology
Applications are invited for a 6-month Paediatric Interventional Radiology (PIR) fellowship within the Interventional Radiology (IR) department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. This post is suitable for a ST5, or equivalent trainee, or someone looking to gain additional experience before taking up a consultant appointment.
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare. In 2018/19 we received 237,908 outpatient visits and 43,218 inpatient visits, across 63 different clinical specialties, meaning GOSH offers the widest range of specialist health services for children on one site. In addition, GOSH is partnered with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH) and is the largest paediatric centre in Europe dedicated to both clinical and basic scientific research. GOSH and UCL Great Ormond Street ICH have been awarded NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) status and are the only paediatric BRC in the UK.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be appointed an educational and clinical supervisor at the commencement of the fellowship. Training objectives will be set at an induction meeting and reviewed, at regular supervisor meetings, throughout the course of the fellowship.
As well as clinical training in PIR procedures there will be the opportunity to attend and participate in PIR outpatient clinics and the entire spectrum of clinicoradiological multidisciplinary meetings. There will also be protected time to undertake academic projects throughout the fellowship and there is access to library facilities at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Active engagement in audit, research and teaching is strongly encouraged.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Paediatric Diagnostic Radiology SpR/Fellow out of hours on-call service at an approximate frequency of 1:6-7. The out of hours on-call service is supported by a Paediatric Diagnostic Radiology Consultant. The hospital does have a PIR out of hours on-call service, but this is Consultant led and does not include junior cover.
For those wishing to gain advanced experience in Paediatric Diagnostic Radiology there may also be the opportunity to organise an elective period with the body radiology, neuroradiology, and cardiac imaging teams. This potential opportunity is dependent on the number of trainees in each department at that time and, unfortunately, cannot be guaranteed.
