Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a specialist clinical psychologist to join our Paediatric stream at GOSH on a part time basis working within endocrinology in a new service for children with rare bone conditions, including achondroplasia. The postholder will be part of the endocrinology psychology team which sits within the broader Specialist Health Conditions Paediatric Psychology stream at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This post is currently funded for 2 years but there may a possibility at the end of the two years for the post holder to apply for a permanent position in the service.
The successful candidate will offer specialist psychological provision to the children/young people and their families in the rare bone conditions service, as well as contributing more broadly to the work within the Specialist Health Conditions Stream. The post holder will will lead the systematic delivery of high quality, evidence based clinical psychology services to patients and families as part of a multidisciplinary team in rare bone conditions. This will include undertaking psychological assessments and providing individual and group interventions.They will also be expected to provide consultation and expertise to the staff teams working within this service, and to provide supervision and line management of more junior psychology staff within the stream.
Main duties of the job
- To be responsible for providing a specialist systematic and autonomous clinical psychology service within the specialist clinical area, in accordance with objectives agreed with clinical and professional managers. The post will require independent management of caseload and provision of a psychology service with appropriate supervision and professional management, as per BPS and HCPC guideline.
- To provide clinical supervision and line management to more junior psychologists, as appropriate.
- To contribute to and help put into practice new or revised policies that improve the quality of the service by participating regularly on working parties and committees to develop policies and services relevant to the profession and/or medical specialties, in agreement with the Consultant Psychologist and Head of Psychology.
- To take part in the evaluation, monitoring and development of the multidisciplinary team's operational policies through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit and ensuring incorporation of psychological frameworks for understanding and provision of high quality care.
As this is a new service there will be a requirement for referral and outcome data collection and analysis as part of a broader service evaluation and to inform the development of a future business case.
