Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a psychologist interested in paediatric pain management to join an interdisciplinary team in the shared development of the delivery, evaluation, and improvement of a new paediatric pain rehabilitation programme (PPRP) for patients and families. The postholder will work within, and be supported by, a team that includes pain clinicians, clinical nurse specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and support staff.
The Pain Management Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital provides an integrated service for acute, post-operative, and persistent pain in both inpatient and outpatient settings for infants, children, and adolescents. The PPRP will provide an expansion of currently available interventions offered by the Pain Management Service at GOSH, and the successful candidate would be part of this.
We are recruiting several Psychologists at a variety of bands. This will particularly interest people with experience in Paediatrics, CAMHS, or Adult/Paediatric Pain. Please get in touch if you are interested in this project but are unsure if your experience is relevant.
We are open to structuring this post as a job share for applicants that do not wish to work full-time. If you would like to work part-time, then please apply and we will consider your application.
Main duties of the job
- To contribute to the design and improvement of treatment for patients and parent groups.
- To facilitate, deliver, and provide education and psychological intervention as part of the interdisciplinary team in group based and individual sessions across a wide variety of settings.

- Formulate and implement plans as part of an interdisciplinary team for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a patient's and family's psychological needs within the framework of the PPRP, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.
- Contribute to the academic pathway embedded within the programme.
- To contribute a psychological perspective on patient selection (as part of the Pain Service MDT) for PPRP treatment.
- Independent management of caseload and provision of a clinical psychology service with appropriate use of supervision and professional management, as per BPS and HCPC guidelines.
