The Physiotherapy Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital has a unique and exciting opportunity available for an experienced physiotherapist to join the Rare Bone Service. As this is a new post as part of a pilot service, we are looking for someone to lead on the physiotherapy role within this service. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, treatment and advice for children and families where there is a diagnosis of a rare bone disorder.

Main duties of the job
You will take the lead role for physiotherapy in this new service which has a strong multidisciplinary focus and includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, nursing, and medical colleagues. There is close working with the physiotherapists from GOSH's orthopaedic, spinal and osteogenesis Imperfecta service, as well as our community colleagues.
You will provide support through specialist assessment, treatment, and advice, for children and families where there is a diagnosis of a rare bone disorder. The post holder will use expert clinical knowledge and reasoning to support colleagues both in GOSH and externally in the ongoing management of children with these conditions.
Key areas include:
- Achondroplasia - positioning and handling in infants.
- Other skeletal dysplasia
- Inherited rickets such as XLH (be involved in delivering some outcome measures such as 6MWT, TUG etc)
- Osteoporosis
- Rare metabolic bone conditions such as Maccune Albright syndrome
- Pain
You will be responsible for maintaining and expanding links with similar external services, nationally and internationally and with special interest groups. They will provide teaching to professionals both internally and externally to the Trust. As a senior member of the physiotherapy team the post holder will also have management duties within the department. Providing formal and informal supervision, completing appraisals, and managing Band 6 and assistants.
