Job summary

We have 1 x clinical fellow posts available in Paediatric Neurology. The posts will commence in March 2024 and are fixed term for 6 months (with potential for extension on mutual agreement).

These posts will provide excellent opportunity for sub-specialist training in Paediatric Neurosciences within a department providing a dynamic, comprehensive, tertiary paediatric neurology service. This is particularly suitable for an individual who is post-CCT in Paediatrics/Paediatric Neurology (or equivalent specialist training).

The acute neurology post holders will provide registrar-level medical cover for one of the following areas -Acute neurology ward, Telemetry ward, Rapid assessment Neurology Unit, Internal and external consultations service as well as a variety of outpatient clinics and support neurovascular service.

They will also provide out of hours on-call commitments in neurology during the day and hospital out of hours commitment for nights.

Main duties of the job

Day time clinical duties

The post provides in-patient and out-patient experience in a busy 24-bedded combined ward of a large miscellany of acute neurological problems, including epilepsy, neurovascular disorders, CNS infection, neuroinflammation and other genetically-determined/neurometabolic diseases. Expertise will thus be gained in the management of the acutely sick child with Neurological Disease. The acute unit work also provides a Neurology Consultation service around the hospital including for the Intensive Care units; for the care of children with complex metabolic, oncology, infectious disease/immunology; and for the major organ specialities (cardiology, respiratory, nephrology, and gastroenterology). The appointee will also assist in giving advice for other children outside the hospital who have neurological or neurosurgical problems. There are close working relationships with the Departments of Neuroradiology, Neurophysiology, Histopathology and Neurosurgery and Paediatric Intensive Care. Support and supervision will be available from senior colleagues at all times.
