Consultant Paediatric and Interventional Cardiologist
Full Time (10 PAs ) - Substantive
A new Consultant Paediatric Interventional Cardiologist position has been created to comply with NHS England standards, and facilitate succession planning. The position would suit an individual early in their career.
The Applicant should be trained and experienced in Paediatric and Interventional Cardiology, with experience in all Interventions, as well as the more specialised techniques that are required for National Specialty commitments (heart transplant endomyocardial biopsy, coronary angiography and IVUS; hybrid MRI-PVR assessment for pulmonary hypertension and heart failure, atrial septostomy and device implant for left heart decompression, VV ECMO cannulation, tracheal surgery etc).
The post holder will be on call for General Cardiology (1:12), and Intervention (1:4). Continued training and mentorship will be provided within the department, or from outside Cardiology. Consultants operate together in complex catheter interventions and hybrid procedures with Cardiac Surgery. Attendance at joint cardiac and surgical meetings is required. A GOSH Paediatric Cardiology clinic will be included. Candidates must be registered with the GMC at time of application.

Main duties of the job
The position is a new appointment to comply with the Cardiac Network and HS England guidelines for Interventional Cardiology, as well as to start succession planning for the present consultants. The position would most suit an individual early in their consultant career, and mentorship can be provided within the existing interventional cardiology consultants, and also externally if required.
There will be 2 or more cardiology sessions per week in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Many procedures will be performed with two consultant operators. Cardiac catheter sessions include simple and complex diagnostic cardiac catheterisation, interventional catheterisation (including balloon dilation, stenting, device closure of defects, transcatheter implantation of valves) and willingness to explore new techniques to stay in the forefront of their specialty
