Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Job summary

Aligned with our value of 'Child First and Always' our children and young people are at the heart of what we do. Their feedback and views are invaluable in helping us to understand what we are doing well, where we need to improve and what is important particularly in the context of our services, the hospital environment, how we work and our future plans.

The Young People's Forum is a key source of this important insight and is instrumental in meaningful collaboration and co-production at GOSH. This role is responsible for the effective management of the YPF and ensuring that it remains relevant in the context of the work/ priorities it is involved in and that the forum reflects the diversity of our patient cohort.

This role will also support wider engagement and co-production with all CYP across the hospital to ensure that the wider views of our patients inform what we do and reflects what is important to them.

Main duties of the job

Operational coordination of engagement, involvement and co-production activities with CYP:

  • Be the first point of contact for enquiries and requests for CYP where opportunities for their engagement, involvement and/or to embark on a coproduced project has arisen.
  • Coordinate and advertise CYP meetings/activities across the Trust, identify and coordinate speakers attending the forum, and support them to engage with members in a meaningful and interactive manner. Co-production starts during the consideration of a project, through planning, implementation and evaluation. Speakers attending should be encouraged at the point of identifying a potential improvement idea, to pitch it to the YPF as the very first step.
  • Recruit new CYPFs members, from a range of backgrounds with specific communication and mobility needs and those most likely to face health and care inequalities, through engagement activities within and outside GOSH.
  • Manage the recruitment, registration and induction of all new members and the leaving arrangements of parting members.
  • Support the members of the YPF who hold specific roles e.g. Chair, Vice Chair - both of which have clear roles and responsibilities and develop ways of enabling younger age groups to be heard.

About us

GOSH is committed to recruiting the best person for the job, based solely on their ability and individual merit as measured against the criteria for the role; through a process that is fair, open, consistent and free from bias and discrimination.

We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive employer and foster a culture where all staff are valued, respected and acknowledged. All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, disability status or length of time spent unemployed.

We particularly welcome applications from BAME communities, people with disabilities and/or long-term health conditions and LGBT+ community members.

We have policies and procedures in place to ensure that all applicants and employees are treated fairly and consistently. We are proud to be accredited as a Disability Confident Employer, a member of Business Disability Forum and a Stonewall Diversity Champion.

We have active and Executive supported BAME, LGBT+ and Allies, Disability and Long-Term Health Conditions and Women's staff networks. Staff networks are employee-led groups formed around interests, issues and a common bond or background. Staff network members create a positive and inclusive work environment at Great Ormond Street Hospital by actively contributing to the Trust's mission, values and efforts specific to inclusion. All of our staff networks are open to any employee.
