Job summary

We seek a motivated individual of high calibre to support the delivery of quality care through operational and clinical leadership. You will provide overarching senior leadership to the therapy groupings at GOSH including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and dietetics.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to engage clinical and managerial teams and the ability to deliver high-performing services, in a cycle of continuous improvement. The Head of Therapies (HoT) is a key Senior Management and Leadership team member.

You must be an experienced clinician and operational manager, with post-graduate qualifications with significant experience in professional leadership. As agreed with the Chief of CCS you will lead on various projects and programmes of work across CCS. Working in collaboration with Heads of Profession and SMT to ensure that the role and development of therapies are reflected in both the CCS and Allied Health Professional strategic and operational plans.

You will be confident in disseminating national and local requirements to review and innovatively contribute to policy, strategy and guidance for clinical practice. You will be an integral Lead, providing support and challenge to current systems to ensure effective governance for clinical and professional supervision, supporting all staff, especially workforce planning.

Main duties of the job

  • To be the professional Therapies lead for the Trust, providing advice within the organisation and, where appropriate, in dealings with external partners on all matters concerning the managed services and practices, ensuring an up-to-date knowledge of professional and service issues is maintained.
  • To be responsible for developing a supportive working culture across the Therapies services and ensuring that staff are adhering to the Trust Always values
  • Provide leadership to the Therapies department, working with clinical colleagues to To support positive and effective relationships between the Therapies departments and other services, with external bodies and with user and carer groups manage the design and delivery of clinical/non-clinical services
  • Develop effective processes for monitoring, analysing, and managing department activity, including the efficient management of capacity, when performance falls below set standards and taking corrective action. Ensuring that all national and Trust performance targets are achieved
  • Analyse and interpret a range of options in highly complex situations, making judgements and deciding upon corrective action to ensure performance targets are achieved
  • Lead the development of bids and business cases to enable the strategic of services and roles within the Therapies department
  • To undertake audit, teaching and research activities, and to promote research activity within the psychological therapies
