Do you want to expand your respiratory skill set? We have a secondment opportunity on Leopard where you will be able to develop skills and knowledge in caring for patients with complex respiratory conditions.
You'll be joining Leopard Ward, which focuses on children and young people requiring respiratory medicine acutely and chronically. It has 14 beds, including a four-bed high-dependency unit (HDU) and five dedicated beds for children and young people with cystic fibrosis.
Our patients have a variety of underlying medical conditions, including learning disabilities, so we welcome nurses from diverse disciplines. We'll build on your professional development to date with high-quality training, including high-dependency nursing skills. Some of the respiratory focused skills you will gain will be in caring for patients who require ventilation, chest drains and nasopharyngeal airways. You will also be enrolled on the Fundamentals of Respiratory Course during your secondment and have the opportunity to attend other locally run courses and team days.

Main duties of the job
To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children, young people and families.- Ability to promote family centred care and establish good relationships with children and their families.- To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.- To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence (excluding intensive care wards and non RN Child Registered Nurses).-To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion In Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).- Contribute towards achieving the 'Great Ormond Street Hospital Vision for Nursing'.
